Rules & Regulations

REFEREE DECISIONS ARE FINAL. FIFA RULES APPLY IF NOT MODIFIED WITHIN.

SLSG reserves the right to reschedule games due to inclement weather.

FIELD DIMENSIONS

(Length-40 yards, Width-30 yards, goal box 10×8. U7 and U8 age groups play on a 20 by 30 yard field, goal box 8×6.) The goal box, eight feet wide by six feet long, is directly in front of the goal. No player may touch the ball within the goal box, however, any player may move through the goal box. If a defender touches the ball in the goal box, a goal is awarded to the offensive team. If an offensive player touches the ball within the goal box, a goal kick is awarded to the defensive team. The goals are four feet high by six feet wide.

NO OFFSIDES IN 3-ON-3 SOCCER

Shin guards are mandatory for players in all age levels.

NO SLIDE TACKLING

Players must stay upright and ‘on their feet’ when going into a tackle. This does not prevent players from sliding to stop/intercept a ball but NO contact can be made with opposing players.

GOAL SCORING

A goal may be scored only from a touch within a team’s offensive half of the field.

GAME DURATION

The game shall consist of two 12 minute halves seperated by a two minute halftime period OR the first team to reach 12 goals, which¬ever comes first. Games tied after regular play shall end in a tie, except in playoffs. No timeouts in 3-on-3 soccer.

PLAYOFF OVERTIME

Shall consist of a sudden death overtime period, maximum length of three minutes, with a coin toss to decide kick off/direction. The first team to score in overtime is the winner. If no team has scored in the three minute overtime period, the winner shall be decided by a sudden death penalty shootout. Players will rotate with each penalty kick until one team scores unanswered.

PENALTY KICKS

Shall be awarded if, in the referee’s opinion, a scoring opportunity was nullified by the infraction. It is a direct kick taken from the middle of the half-way line with all players behind the half-way line. After the kick, the offensive team cannot touch the ball again until the defensive team has touched it.

FIVE YARD RULE

In all dead ball situations, defending players must stand at least five yards away from the ball. If the defensive player’s goal area is closer than five yards, the ball shall be placed five yards from the goal area in line with the place of the penalty.

KICK INS

The ball shall be kicked into play from the sideline instead of thrown in.

INDIRECT KICKS

All dead ball kicks (kick ins, free kicks, kick offs) are indirect with the exception of corner/penalty kicks.

GOAL KICKS

May be taken from any point on the end line or goal area.

NUMBER OF PLAYERS

Six is the maximum number of players on a team; three field players at one time. Two players are required to begin play. There are no goal keepers in 3-on-3 soccer. Substitutions may occur at any dead ball situation.

KICK OFF

May be taken in any direction.

PLAYER REGISTRATION

All players must be registered on their team’s registration form prior to starting the first game. Wristbands will be provided and must be worn in order to play. Any player replacement due to emergency or injury must be submitted and approved by tournament officials prior to play. Tournament officials have the right to request reasonable proof of reason and will act accordingly. The player being replaced will not be allowed to take part in the rest of the tournament. NO replacements will be allowed between the completion of game play and start of playoffs.

COED RULES

One female must be on the field at all times.

PLAYER EJECTION

Referees have the right to eject a player from the game for continual disobedience or as a result of an incident that warrants sending off. The team may then continue with their remaining two or three players. The ejected player will then be suspended for the following game.

TIEBREAKERS

In the event of a tie in total point standings, the following sequence will be used. (1) Head to Head competition between the teams that are tied. (2) Best Goal difference for all games up to SIX (6) per game. (3) Fewest Goals Allowed. (4) Most Goals Scored To 6 per game. (5) Penalty Kick Shootout Five (5) players per team; if still tied sudden victory penalty kick shootout. (In case of a 3 way tie we will go through tie breakers until we have a winner, the process does not eliminate a team and the restart the tie breaker list.)

PLAYOFFS

In groups of six teams: The top two seeds (called wild card #1 and wild card #2) will meet in the final regardless of bracket. Teams play 3 cross bracket games.
 
In groups of 10 teams: Winner of Bracket 1 will play Wild Card. Winner of Bracket 2 will Play Winner of Bracket 3. If WC comes out of Bracket 1, then Winner of Bracket 1 will play Winner of Bracket 3 and Winner of Bracket 2 will play the Wild Card. If the winner of Bracket 2 and the winner of Bracket 3 have already played, we will have the Winner of Bracket 1 play the winner of Bracket 3 and the Winner of Bracket 2 play the Wild car
There will be no playoffs in groups of five teams.
 
Groups of four teams will play a round robin followed by a championship for the top two teams.
Groups of five will play a round robin with no final. Highest points wins!

SCORING SYSTEM

Six (6) points for a win. Three (3) points for a tie. Zero (0) points for a loss. One (1) point for each goal scored up to a maximum of 5. This includes losing teams.

REFUND POLICY

If the event is cancelled entirely because of weather, St. Louis Scott Gallagher will refund 80% of your entry fee. Teams will be refunded per game if the event starts and they play only one or two games.
