ST. LOUIS – The 2016 adidas MLS Combine will take place January 7 – 12 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Among the 59 NCAA Division I student-athletes chosen to showcase their talent in front of representatives from all 20 MLS clubs are two St. Louis Scott Gallagher alumni.
Justin Bilyeu and Connor Sparrow will be competing with aspirations of hearing their names called during the 2016 MLS SuperDraft on Thursday, January 14 in Baltimore, Maryland.
Bilyeu, a Defender at Southern Illinois – Edwardsville was a 2015 Preseason All-Missouri Valley Conference selection and named to the All-West Region team as announced by the National Soccer Coaches of America (NSCAA). Bilyeu featured prominently in SIUE’s back line, which captured its first ever MVC regular season championship. “We are very proud of Justin and Connor’s selection to the MLS Combine.” said Kevin Kalish, SLSG Missouri Boys Technical Director. “Justin is one of the best left backs and pure ball strikers in the country. He is a fantastic teammate, competitor and has had a phenomenal career at SIUE. Justin and Connor continue the tradition of SLSG’s top academy players going on to have careers in the professional game.”
Sparrow, a two-year starter in goal for Creighton helped lead the Bluejays to their first Big East regular season title in 2014 and had his squad one game away from the 2015 College Cup before falling to Akron in the Quarterfinals. “Connor had been with us since U11 and like the goalkeepers before him; he’s carried on the tradition of working hard and maximizing every session.” said Tim Kelly, SLSG Director of Goalkeeping and former Coach of Sparrow. “Connor embodies the club’s core values and as a hard and selfless worker both on and off the field, he will no doubt inspire those in the club who come after him. This is a tremendous opportunity for Connor and I’m confident in his ambition and will to push forward and represent his club, city, family and friends in a positive way that we can all be proud of.”
