St. Louis County recently announced plans for a state of the art soccer complex in Creve Coeur Park. The complex, described as a destination facility, will house 14 lighted artificial turf fields and attract clubs and spectators from across the state and country. One of the 14 fields will be a championship field with seating for 500 spectators and a view of Creve Coeur Lake.
The complex will include gated parking for 1,500 vehicles and the County anticipates hosting 21 major tournaments annually. With an anticipated 130,000 visitors a year, coupled with 39,000 room nights booked at local hotels, the complex expects to create a net economic impact of $8 million a year.
The Convention and Visitors Center approved the $14 million funding for the facility and expects the revenue generated from hotel taxes on visitors will cover all operating costs, maintenance and field replacement all while creating at least 70 new jobs and no new taxes to local citizens.
“St. Louis Scott Gallagher has been a long-standing tenant of St. Louis County. We look forward to contributing our existing fields at the site to the larger complex to be developed for the community. Through this process we will support this new complex by becoming an anchor tenant,” said Patrick Barry, Executive Director of SLSG. “We applaud St. Louis County’s vision and leadership in developing this destination complex and creating first-class amenity for area residents and the thousands of tourists who will visit this great facility.”
