St. Louis, MO (March 1, 2019) – The SLSG MO Girls Division is excited to announce that Mike Lagow will be joining the Elite Program for the 2019-20 season. And although he will work with all four high school aged teams, Mike will be the main voice of the 2003 and 2005 Elite Teams.
Lagow returns to the club after a six (6) year break during which he has worked with several clubs throughout the country. Mike, a teacher by trade, is a "value focused" person/coach who has a proven track record of developing technically sound individuals as well as cohesive and winning teams that play the game in a respected way. His passion, teaching ability, and coaching experience will be a welcomed compliment to an already strong coaching line up in the Elite Program.
MO Girls Director of Coaching, Scott McDoniel, had this to say regarding the recent addition, "Steve [Pecher] and I have been committed to finding the absolute right fit for our Elite players. The Program had a bright start to its renewed status after Shaunna [Brandt] took the reigns from Sterling [Wescott] last winter, and we wanted to find a passionate, experienced coach that believes in our Program objectives and could conitnue to push the players to help them achieve their individual and team goals. There is no doubt in our minds that we have found the right person to help Shaunna take the Elite Program to another level of performance and add to the positive experience that these players are seeking in the game."
After last winter's restructuring the Elite Program experienced many firsts this season including an overnight preseason camp, a preseason tourney in Chicago, a trip to Phoenix AZ that included all Elite Teams U13-17, and for the first time an Elite Team (04) has qualified for the USYS National League. "The idea was for the Elite Program to mirror, in many ways, the already successful ECNL Program we have in our MO - Girls Division", said Club Director Steve Pecher. "From how and where the girls trained, to the competition calendar, and really down to the last detail, we wanted the two programs collaborating to simulate the experience for the players. I believe this year has been a great start to this 'collaboration' between the programs and it will only get better with the addtion of Mike".
Mike and Shaunna Brandt have already started working hard to plan and prepare for next year establishing purpose and objectives for the Program. “I am very excited for Mike to begin working with the Elite Program. Mike he has a proven track-record for how he develops players and I am confident that he will help all our players get better on the field to help us achieve the goals that we have in place for the Program. I believe that his selflessness and passion for the game will enhance the overall experience for all Elite players which goes hand in hand with the “More Than A Game” philosophy that we as a Missouri Girls Program have adopted."
Mike, a graduate of the Naval Academy, lives in St. Louis Hills with wife Julie and daughters Harper (7) and Charlottle (4) and also son Noah (5). Mike teaches Math at the College School in Webster Groves and has earned his National Youth and USSF B Coaching Licenses.
